Nap time

Nap time is a really big deal in my household, but recently Baby Alex has begun to protest to napping more and more. Okay I get it... Why would he want to nap? He has a house full of fun that he dosent want to miss out on, but sleep is seriously something he needs. It conserves energy and It gives toddlers time to recharge and reboot and if that does not happen everyone will suffer later.
Nap time is ME time, I use nap time to do things that are difficult to do with a mischievous toddler running around such as My daily workout, Laundry, Cleaning the playroom, Doing my makeup and hair, ect. So I switched up my usual nap time routine a bit to work more for the both of us...

  1. First I had to know when it was nap time. His old nap time was around 11:00am, so I decided to push it back an extra hour ... 30 minutes from his original nap time i began to notice the cues that he was tired. (Rubbing eyes, Staring off into space, Yawning, and Fussy).
  2. Once I noticed the cues I took him up to his room and sat him on my lap and began to read him a story just like I do at bedtime. After his story I lay him down in the bed, put his blanket over him, turn on his crib music and quietly leave the room. Most of the time he is still awake but he is calm because he knows a story and crib music = relax time.
  3. Nap times usually vary but I began to only let him sleep about 90 minutes no longer, because most of the time if he sleeps to long he will wake up cranky. His new nap time is now 12:00pm only an hour later than his old nap time.
The following steps have been working out great for me and Baby Alex. He gets his rest and I get to do whatever I need to do before he wakes up.
